The 2008 International Haari Boat Festival will be held at the Wailoa State Park and river in Hilo, Hawai`i on August 15-16, 2008.

Friday, August 15, is reserved for team practice with the boats, but many other activities in Hilo are planned for later in the afternoon, including the kick-off of the 2008 Friendship Golf Tournament.

Hawai`i’s World Heritage Festival will be taking place Friday evening beginning at 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the nearby Mooheau Park in downtown Hilo. The diverse array of cultures found in Hawaii will be shared through exhibitions of performing arts, crafts, cultural demonstrations and a wide variety of Okinawan epicurean favorites and international foods.

The official Haari Boat Races are scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Teams in three divisions compete for speed and cooperative skill in rowing the boats in tandem, to the beat of a gong at the rear of the boat. Prizes are awarded in each division.

Following the award ceremony, a traditional Luau featuring Hawaiian food and entertainment will be held until 10pm.
