2008 International Haari Boat Festival

Wailoa State Park and River, Hilo Hawaii
August 15-16, 2008

Friday, August 15

  • Team Practice
  • Friendship Golf Tournament
  • Hawaii’s World Heritage Festival
    3 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Mooheau Park in downtown Hilo.

The diverse array of cultures found in Hawaii will be shared through exhibitions of performing arts, crafts, cultural demonstrations and a wide variety of international foods.

Saturday, August 16

  • Haari Boat Races
    The Race is a fun event requiring cooperative efforts in rowing the boats in tandem to the beat of a gonger at the front of the boat.

  • Awards Presentation
    Presentation of awards will commense right after the winners are declared. A first place trophy and prizes will be awarded. All teams participating will get an award.

  • Open Market
  • Okinawan foods
    Andagi,
    Plate lunches,
    Okinawan Soba Noodles
    local favorites
    shave ice
    spam musubi

  • Country Store
  • Festival T-shirts
  • Cultural exhibit
  • Hawaiian Luau
  • Cultural Entertainment

Tickets for the Hawaiian Luau and T-shirts will be available by mail order.

  • The Friendship Golf Tournament
    - will continue on Sunday morning

Hosted by Hui Okinawa, an International cultural organization promoting Okinawan culture and relationships worldwide, the races will be held on the beautiful Wailoa River in downtown Hilo, on Hawai`i's Big Island.
