The 2012 International Haari Boat Festival will be held at the Wailoa State Park and river in Hilo, Hawai`i on August 16th through the18th, 2012
Thursday, August 16th, Hui Okinawa Kobudo Taiko will be holding a very special 10th Anniversary Concert at the Hilo Palace Theatre. This concert will start at 6:30PM and will include performance from Okinawan Cultural Groups around the Big Island and the grand finale by Hui Okinawa Kobudo Taiko. Friday, August 17, is reserved for team practice with the boats, but many other activities in Hilo are planned for later in the afternoon, including the kick-off of the 2012 Friendship Golf Tournament.
The official Haari Boat Races are scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012. Teams in three divisions compete for speed and cooperative skill in rowing the boats in tandem, to the beat of a gong at the rear of the boat. Prizes are awarded in each division.
Following the award ceremony, a post-race party and entertainment will be held until 8:30 P.M.
